Nina Fowler Leaning Board I: Jean

This is a print mounted on wood of the original life-size drawings Nina Fowler made of Jean Harlow. Artists grew fascinated with the off-screen props that literally 'propped up' young starlets like Jean. The 2D 'cardboard cut-out' elusion is created with strange shading and gives the piece a sinister quality. The space left by the absence of the prop renders her poise awkward and unnatural, and her figure floats like a disturbing deity in the surrounding white space.
