Garlic Sativum

FlowerBulbsInc

There really is nothing more satisfying than growing your own garlic. Garlic sativum is a very strong and delicious variety, with gorgeous flowers to boot! Each little clove produces a new garlic head the following year for you to enjoy. Press the centre of the garlic head with your fingers, to loosen the cloves. Plant them with their ‘noses’ facing upwards, approx. 3 cm deep and 10 cm apart in 25 cm rows. You can plant garlic from November/April, keeping the ground moist, but not too wet and fertilise 3 times during the season.Garlic grows best in a sunny spot. Stop watering after 4-5 months (when the leaves start to yellow and wither) and wait for two weeks before harvesting them. Once harvested, leave the garlic to dry for approx. two weeks, after which you can clip them and store them in a well ventilated area. Growing your own garlic is immensely satisfying and you can store garlic for at least 6 months after harvesting. Very rewarding.
