SkyWatcher Skyhawk 114 Telescope

The Sky-Watcher Skyhawk-114 Telescope features a shorter, more compact telescope tube length resulting in a lighter-weight telescope of excellent convenience and portability. It is a particularly good choice of instrument for keen beginners to astronomy, wanting larger aperture and increased performance at a relatively low cost. This catadioptric version has a longer 1000mm focal length so achieving higher magnifications than standard shorter focal length models. Most reflectors today have a coat of aluminium as the mirror surface and then an overcoat of silicon monoxide or silicon dioxide to protect it. Silicon dioxide produces a much more durable coat than silicon monoxide but requires specialized equipment to apply it and is therefore more expensive. Protection is needed, because in most reflectors, the mirror is open to the elements and deterioration of the reflective layer reduces the resolution of the telescope.
